Privacy
Window Safar is a personal project run by Prachi from India. This page explains what happens to your data when you use the site. The short version: you can ride without an account, signing in is optional, and your information is never sold.
What stays in your browser
A few things are saved only on your own device, in your browser's local storage, so the site remembers them next time:
- the station stamps you've collected and things you bought on platforms
- your language choice (English or Hindi)
- whether you unlocked the Pass demo
This never leaves your device. You can clear it any time by clearing site data in your browser settings.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional. It lets your stamps and Pass follow you across devices. If you sign in with Google or an email link, Window Safar stores:
- your name and email address (from Google, or the email you type)
- your station stamps, platform buys, journey progress and Pass status
This is kept in Google Firebase, the service that runs sign-in for the site, and only you can read or change your own record. It isn't shared with anyone else or used for advertising. You can delete your account and synced data any time from the sign-in page.
Outside services the site uses
Some parts of Window Safar load content from other companies. When they do, your browser connects to them directly, and they may see your IP address and set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
- YouTube (Google) plays the window footage.
- Spotify plays the songs.
- Open-Meteo provides live weather for each station.
- Google Fonts provides the typefaces.
- Google Firebase runs sign-in and stores synced progress, only if you sign in.
- Microsoft Clarity helps me understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, where people click and scroll, and anonymous recordings of visits. It does not record what you type into forms. Microsoft may use cookies for this; see Microsoft's privacy statement.
Affiliate links
Links such as "Book this train", "Stay in…" and "Take home…" go to partner sites like Amazon, Booking.com and ixigo, sometimes through affiliate networks such as Awin, Cuelinks or EarnKaro. If you click one, that site or network may set a cookie to record that you came from Window Safar, so a commission can be credited if you buy something. Window Safar never sees your purchase details. See the affiliate disclosure for more.
Tips by UPI
"Buy the maker a chai" opens your own UPI app or shows a QR code. The payment happens entirely inside your UPI app and bank. Like any UPI payment, the person receiving it can see the sender's name and UPI ID. Window Safar does not see or store any bank or card details.
Contact form
The contact form opens your own email app. Nothing you type is sent to or stored on this website. If you email me, I'll use your email only to reply.
Children
Window Safar is meant for a general audience and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask what personal data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or erased, and raise a grievance. You can delete your account and synced data yourself from the sign-in page, clear browser data to remove what's saved on your device, or contact me for anything else.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change too.
This policy describes how the site works today. If you add analytics or a payment gateway later, update it before those go live.
